Sean and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary on July 26th. In a way, it feels like we’ve been together for a long time. Yet at the same time I can’t believe 5 years has passed already. We’re about to move for the sixth time, we’ve had a motorcycle and five cars, we’ve been to Disneyland five times, and we have two amazing little boys. It’s crazy to look back over the years and think about all that we’ve been through and all of our fun adventures. I can’t wait to see where the next five years take us.

For our anniversary, we had a rough plan at first. My husband went a little overboard and suggested we drive to Anaheim through the night and spend the day at Disneyland and then drive through the night and go to San Diego and spend the day at the zoo and spend the next day at LegoLand and then drive all the way back to Washington… I got tired typing that just now. It was a fun thought, but instead we decided to go on a much more relaxed road trip to Tacoma.
Our first stop in Tacoma was the Point Defiance Zoo. I really think that this is a hidden gym of our northwest state. It has such amazingly beautiful animals such as tigers, red wolves, and polar bears. My husband’s favorite part of the day was watching the tiger eat meatballs being thrown at him. The aquatic areas are my personal favorite. A hammerhead shark swam right up to us and there were otters lounging on their backs just a few feet away. There were touch tanks and camel rides and some tasty treats while we walked around. Mason had a blast running around and yelling in excitement about all of his favorite animals.
After the zoo, we got lunch at Chowder House. We’ve never been there before and were happily surprised with some unique deviled eggs and a chowder sampler. It was fun getting to try the different chowders they have and we will definitely have to come back for more someday! After checking into our hotel, we went back to a restaurant for a dinner with a view! Shenanigans is right on the water and they have a crab mac n cheese that’s to die for! We also ordered chocolate cake to take back to our hotel. We didn’t need a fancy cruise or a trip to Hawaii for an amazing anniversary. We just needed each other. Typically there’s a little chaos in every adventure, especially with two kids. God decided to bless us with a day that I can easily label as “perfect.”

It was a long day for the kids and they were so tired. We got back to the hotel pretty late so they just went straight to sleep. It was a really fun time taking a little road trip and it was Avery’s first night away from home too!
