This is my final post in a four week series about the book Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion. You can find my first three posts here: 1. Intro to the book , 2. Author Interview, 3. Goal setting and updates.

A key message from the book is that the most challenging times to curb hunger are just before bed and in the morning. By following the Always Eat After 7PM program, you have the most willpower to stay on the diet because you are eating during the hours when you are most hungry. This also puts you into both intermittent fasting increasing testosterone and your metabolism, while putting you into ketosis.

Here are two things from the book that really stand out to me. I was always taught, and believed, that you should eat early and not eat snacks before bed. This book teaches us differently and I really love the facts and lessons I learned from it.

  • “Research shows that the average person’s metabolic rate is no different during sleep than during the day. In short, your metabolism doesn’t slow down at night. Nor does your body store fat at the end of the day. Whether it’s 8 am or 8 pm, you use food for energy the same way.”
  • “Late-night eating also curbs calorie intake the next day. In a four-week study, dieters added a snack to their daily regimen 90 minutes after dinner every night, and check this out: late-night eaters ate an average of 397 fewer calories per day.”

Overall, I think it was a great book to read. It was really attention grabbing and had a lot of great points. I loved seeing a different view about how and when we should eat. It was one that I favored so I was of course a little skeptical. However, after reading it, it all seems really true. There’s a lot of great small things you can do for your health and for a positive mindset. There’s nothing about this plan that seems difficult. I’m already benefiting from a lot of this book by changing my morning routine and drinking more lemon water in the morning. None of which is causing me to make sacrifices or give anything up, but the way I go about my mornings is different and puts me into a better, more positive mood. I’m going to keep practicing the lessons from this book as well as trying out more of the recipes and see how it goes.
